Introducing our October Member of the Month – Mark!

Mark is another familiar face around the group fitness studios. A member for five years, Mark often does multiple classes a day.

We spoke to Mark about what keeps him so motivated.

Tell us about your fitness routine... why is it so important to you?

My current routine is mixture of group fitness classes, mainly RPM or Spin, Throwdown and strength/cardio plyometric training. I exercise four to five days a week, twice a day.

Exercise is part of my life – it keeps me sane and bearable to people close to me. If I couldn’t go to the gym I would be a pain in the ass, I also think that once your body gets to a certain fitness level your body gets addicted and then you have a room full of gym bunnies.

Do you prefer working out solo or in a group?

I started group fitness around five years ago. I prefer group fitness now – I’m not as competitive as I was and I enjoy the social side more.

What motivates you to exercise so frequently?

I started playing a lot of contact sport from a very young age, then ventured into mid to long distance running and cycling. From there I started going to the gym the older I’ve become and it seems to suit my lifestyle more these days.

I think the secret to staying motivated is you just have to go whether you feel like it or not, once you’re there, half the battle is won and you’ll be fine.

What are your goals at the moment?

I’m about to have a hip replacement which is pretty scary as I’m looking at 12 weeks recovery. After that I’ll concentrate on swimming and cycling then back to group fitness.

How have you overcome injuries?

I’ve had a few injuries over the years; broken bones, strains and sprains, holes in lungs and so on, which are all very frustrating for your run of the mill gym addict.

If you’re injured accept it, take time to recover and you’ll be back in the gym in no time. Going back too soon will only delay getting back to your best.

What keeps you coming back to Beatty Park?

The quality of the facility, equipment and the staff at Beatty Park are amazing, plus the members are all fantastic.
