Marie-Paule has been exercising with us since our gym was near the physio!
We recently spoke to her about her experience with Beatty Park over the last two decades.
You’ve been a member since 1998! What keeps you coming back?
I was coming on and off before that because I was working in the City of Vincent Library, when it was still Perth City.
It really feels like a second home because I’ve been coming here for so long. Its friendly and not intimidating. The staff are all very knowledgeable and you can ask them something at any time.
I’ve made long lasting friendships here.
What is your exercise routine?
My main exercise is running. I run four days a week depending on what I’m training for.
Three days I come here and do Throwdown classes. I come early and warm up in the gym. My main gym buddy is Sue who I met here – she’s been my running partner ever since.
I used to use this pool but it’s very hard trying to fit everything in! But I did use it a lot more when I was injured, running in the water.
What is it about Throwdown that you love?
It’s the challenge. I like to be challenged. There’s always something there that’s going to challenge me!
I like that its varied and you never know what you’re going to get. I don’t like repetitive stuff.
What changes have you noticed since 1998?
I’ve seen a big change. From training in a tiny room up there to the gym just getting bigger and bigger.
It’s definitely much more busy now since the size of the gym increased. You can do everything here, so I see why.
