Member Of The Month: Lauren

Lauren's another familiar face you'll see around this place.

Her kids have basically grown up in the creche and she's given everything we offer a go, so it was high time we made her Member of the Month!

How long have you been a member?

Since 2020 when my son was 8 months old – he’s almost 5 now.

My daughter was almost 2 at the time and I was a few weeks away from a mental breakdown! We’re a FIFO family and at the time I had 2 kids under 2. My friend who’s also a member recommended that I come here; she was bringing her daughter to the creche and said the classes were fantastic.

I was nervous because I hadn’t really been part of a gym for a long time. So I joined and it’s been the best decision I ever made.

What’s your workout routine like?

I’ve done everything here – I’ve done Throwdown, BODYPUMP, BODYBALANCE, I’ve been swimming, I’ve used the sauna a little bit… now I go to the gym and do a mix of things  - that’s why it’s so fabulous because there’s something for everyone.

Do you have a favourite class?

It depends on the mood.

If I want to be challenged, I’ll probably go to Janet’s Throwdown or Andy’s Core.

If I need some fun and endorphins I’ll do BODYATTACK.

And sometimes if I just need to zone out for my mental health I just get on the treadmill and put my music on go for a run and just get my steps up.

So no I don’t really have a favourite, it just depends on how the body’s feeling and what I feel like I need.

What was your experience like when you joined in 2020?

For my first class, I tried to do BODYATTACK and nearly died (jokes!) But then the magic happened when I went to Andy’s Saturday class and I was like ‘oh my god, I’ve found my people.’

It was just such a fun community vibe and I loved it.

As a mum with young kids, sometimes you’re quite isolated, so this is the place I would come to talk to people – everyone’s so friendly.

How has your experience been since then?

Beatty Park for me has become more than just a gym. For the first time in my life, exercise isn’t just a vanity based thing – like wanting to be a certain size or fitting into certain clothes – it became more about wellbeing. It’s the first time I’ve actually enjoyed exercise.

Beatty Park is my gym, it’s my childcare, it’s my office when I need to do some study and it’s my social club. It’s my community.

Every Christmas I give the creche ladies the Christmas cookies we make and I get quite teary. I’ve tried other creches but this one is just a beautiful space – everyone’s so nice!

I feel like it’s a family – it’s cliché but it is!
